Hello, Crescent -- I enjoyed your comments about the big famous writer workshop, aka Story. I attended Story with my filmmaker brother, who wanted to have me help him develop a script. After weeks of having him write e-mails that said, "So, should X be the protagonist? Who is the antagonist?" I suggested we attend Story so we would have the same vocabulary for discussions (also because I wanted to go to London; alas, he chose Las Vegas). I spent the weekend saying, "I told you that." "I said that." Occasionally, he leaned over to me and said, "You said that." Did I learn anything about writing? Nope. Was it an interesting experience? Yes. Would I do it again? Only if it got me to London! :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one who had a McKee problem. Really, I felt a read of Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell covered the same material with greater depth and insight ... and a whole lot less ego!

Did your filmmaker brother feel he got anything out of it (besides learning how smart his sister was/is)?

    Crescent,
I've only ever taken one writing workshop: yours. I've long avoided them for many of the reasons you state in your post. I walked away from your Fearless workshop having learned a lot about me, the writing process, and life---much more than I thought I was signing up for. I am ever thankful for the bait and switch.
